About Dereck
Wildlife photography has been my passion for more than 15 years. During that time, I have travelled extensively through some of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations, capturing the beauty, drama and raw emotion of the natural world.
My photographic journey has given me the privilege of working alongside some of Africa’s most respected wildlife photographers, including Wim van den Heever, winner of the 2025 Natural History Museum Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
These experiences have not only refined my photographic skills but have deepened my understanding of wildlife behaviour and the importance of ethical wildlife photography.
I have also been fortunate to be mentored by internationally recognised wildlife photographer, author and photographic judge Lou Coetzer, founder of CNP Safaris.
His guidance has played a significant role in shaping both my photographic approach and my passion for sharing unforgettable wildlife experiences with others.

CNP Safaris is a specialist African photographic safari company with extensive experience in creating wildlife experiences designed specifically for photographers.
Rather than simply visiting Africa’s great wildlife destinations, CNP Safaris focuses on putting photographers in the best possible position to capture exceptional images. Their approach combines destination knowledge, experienced guides and purpose-built photographic equipment with carefully planned itineraries that allow photographers the time and opportunity to work with their subjects.

Dereck Hindry Photography is proud to be an Official Agent in Australia and New Zealand for CNP Safaris.
Working with CNP Safaris allows me to combine my own experience as a wildlife photographer and photographic host with the African safari expertise and ground operations of CNP Safaris.
I will initially be promoting and hosting photographic experiences to Chobe River, Botswana and Etosha National Park, Namibia, with the opportunity to introduce additional African destinations in the future.
For photographers travelling with me, the emphasis will remain on small groups, outstanding wildlife encounters and photography — giving you the time, space and support needed to make the most of every photographic opportunity.
